In our story we have our 17 year old protagonist who was on his way to home when he sees a two boys fighting similar age to our protagonist, He does anything to bring justice and always cares for others. So when he saw the two people fighting he had to approach them and help out the innocent one, The Protagonist pushes the antagonist away saving the other innocent character where now the antagonist is furious and starts to fight the protagonist while our other character gets away and runs off. Then the Protagonist pushes the Antagonist onto the fence after that the Antagonist slowly brings out a knife and with the Protagonist seeing a knife about to get pulled out he starts to run off. Here we see an Intense chase between the Protagonist and Antagonist around the whole park going through obstacles so that the Protagonist can lose the Antagonist. After all the chasing the antagonist finally catches our Protagonist and pushes him onto a fence and then starts to punch him numerous times leaving him to bleed on the floor and walking off.
Couple Days Later....
We see our protagonist going through the park again and suddenly approached by our other innocent character asking our protagonist if he remembers him, and after talking he thanks him for helping him and feels bad for him so he offers him to help find out the Antagonist and get revenge.
Narrative
So at the beginning we see our Protagonist going to a shop and buying a drink and then leaving the shop to go to home through the park this part of the sequence is quite relaxing and calm since we have a lot of shots of the outside scenery. Then later on something disrupts the equilibrium when the protagonist sees two people fighting and then the protagonist notices this and then he tries to rectify this so that the he can restore the equilibrium this is done by trying to stop the fighting between the two characters. Then when he tries to sort it out however this gets our protagonist into his own complication with the antagonist as the attention of the antagonist has gone from the innocent character on to the main protagonist. So here now we have a bad equilibrium.
Our thriller is going into a linear structure as we want everything to make sense and have a nice flow so we want it to start it with our protagonist to start from him buying something from the shop leading into him going into the park while walking home while he sees two people fighting. After this we see him fighting off the antagonist and getting badly injured here we carry it on later couple days later, so with our thriller it all goes one way without going out of the timeline and follows one timeline.
The narrative device used in this is the goal of the character trying to stop the antagonist from causing harm to other character however he learns that this goal of his is quite dangerous and he needs to become more careful when he learns that a lot of harm can happen upon him as well as others.
Genre
A clear thriller convention is that its based in London meaning we will have the cultural aspect of gangs and people who are on the hood life. meaning there will be a lot of violence and a lot of people with different views. Another thriller convention use can be why do people have to solve it all out with violence and lastly we have a clear view of the protagonist showing his lifestyle.
Most likely with our thriller we will have it as a action drama as a sub genre since through out the film we see a lot of action and drama such as when our protagonist is fighting off the antagonist for the innocent character and at the end we see a sense of drama when the protagonist and innocent character are discussing to get revenge.
Some themes could be action, fear and revenge as through the thriller we see a lot of action and also see some fear from the innocent character at the very start. And lastly near the ending of the thriller we see the theme of revenge when they both want to get revenge and try and do something to the antagonist.
StyleAt the start we have a lot of establishing shots to show the location and scenery of the location to set the mood for our audience and our characters. And another shot is when we have a mid shot with a low/mid angle to show a transition of the build up to the protagonist realizing two people fighting which was a main key point of the thriller.
We made a lot of montages with a lot of clean cuts to show how the scene shows such as with the tense part when the antagonist was chasing down the protagonist and trying to beat him up. Also another use of the editing is showing the transition of when we had the last scene showing that it was taken couple days later. Some sound conventions which were used were like the sound effects and the background music which was used throughout some parts of the thriller. We have some mise-en-scene parts such as foreshadowing the knife in the antagonists pocket which lead to the chase of the protagonist. Also how we started off the antagonist and innocent character in a closed area so it seems quite ignored and low key.
Brief InterpretationWe were quoted that we should "include all conventions of a thriller into our opening sequence" this meaning we need to make sure that everything we add fits and make sure that everything done follows the conventions or a thriller such as the action and intense chasing which is added into the thriller. "target audience 16-28" Here they mentioned about a target audience so when creating our thriller we need to make sure it hits the standard for this type of age range.
Also we were told to use a lot of techniques and also for our "sub-genre" so we need to make sure everything is alright and suits our thriller.
